Vintage Antique Small 2 (Two) Tier Chinese Wedding Basket made of woven bamboo and rattan. Historically used for transporting gifts or food during a wedding tea ceremony with stackable baskets and carrying handle. Estimated to mid-20th century.
During an engagement, traditionally the groom’s family would fill these baskets with gifts for the bride’s family, such as food (fruits, rice, or wedding cakes), sewing materials, and ceremonial red sheets for the wedding night. Post weddings, similar lidded buckets were used in everyday rural life for transporting rice, grain, vegetables, or even as containers for travelling actors’ props.
