A uniquiley shaped Hojalata (punched tin) with hand painted Talvera Tiles Mirror. It’s signed by the artist, which is rare and dated 2007. I purchased this in a gallery in Old Town Albuquerque that is no longer in business. The label from their store is on the back. In great shape with hangers on the back that allow it to be hung vertically or horizontally. At it’s widest points it measures 15 x 20.5 x .5 inches. Non-smoking home.
Mexico Tinwork or Hojalata dates back to the 16th Century colonial period and many credit San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato as the birthplace of this art form. Two main cities are known for the craft; San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca. San Miguel is known for its oxidization techniques whereas Oaxaca specializes in natural and lacquered looks. This mirror is from Oaxaca.
I’m a collector and interior decorator who’s downsizing many of my own and inherited items. All from non-smoking home and well cared for. Please follow me as I slowly go through a an eclectic trove in a filled house and storage unit. Thanks.
