This large, vintage Yanomami gathering basket is tightly handwoven of natural fibers with several inner rings for stability. The straps are tied around the small loops around the top edge, and were placed over the forehead and used to carry the basket on one’s back. The Yanomami are indigenous to the Amazonian regions of Brazil and Venezuela.
